Personal Stories April 2020

  • Apr. 28 - May. 01, 2020
  • Center Stage Theater
Center Stage Theater is seeking short story submissions for our April Personal Stories performance.  These are original first person true stories performed by their authors, in performances that can range from scripted readings to storytelling.

The subject matter can be wide open, but they should be first-person true stories, 5-10 minutes in length.  The final performances will be a mix of different types of stories ranging from hysterical to bittersweet and inspiring to heartbreaking, all flavors are welcome!

The selection of stories for the performances will be a 2-phase process. Artistic Director, Maggie Mixsell, will review the submissions and select those stories that she feels will best translate to the stage. This group will then be invited to audition. From the auditions she will select the final stories/authors for the show and they will receive one-on-one coaching and direction in preparation for the final performances. Maggie will work with the authors to determine the style of performance that best suits each selection. Everyone is welcome to submit, and you can submit multiple stories.  Past Personal Stories productions have included an eclectic group that included professional actors who were making their first attempt at writing, published writers who were performing their works for the first time and pretty much everything else in between.
Approximately 20 stories will be selected, and those stories will be divided into 2 bills and each bill will perform twice.

This is not a cancellation or even a postponement of Personal Stories, this is an update of our plan for moving forward during these crazy times.  For right now we are extending the deadline for submissions until April 6th.  We are working on a plan for auditions – probably doing video submissions or some live digital connection.  We need to see how things evolve to determine when we will be able to do the performances. Things will continue to change, but for now we are looking forward and hoping for the best.  If all else fails, we can explore livestreaming or having extra performances with smaller houses once the stay home order is lifted. We can’t lose by being hopeful! Tell your friends, help us spread the word (but not the virus). Writing some great stories can be an excellent way to fill the time. Let’s produce some joy and happiness during these dark times!

Maggie will work with authors on any rewrites or notes.  There will be a few group rehearsals and individual rehearsals for each performance. If you have any questions please email
