Frost/Nixon
Frost/Nixon opened in London and, following a successful run there, opened on Broadway. It was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Play and Best Director, and won the Tony for Best Actor. It also was a Drama Desk Award nominee for Best Play and won for Best Actor. Frost/Nixon was subsequently made into a highly praised film directed by Ron Howard. The playwright, Peter Morgan, also wrote the screenplays for The Queen and The Last King of Scotland.
This Central Coast premiere features Justin Stark as Frost and Ed Giron as Nixon. The play chronicles the factual interviews between television talk show host David Frost, who was considered a lightweight, and the disgraced Nixon, who had resigned from the U.S. presidency. Surprisingly, Nixon revealed more in this series of interviews than anyone imagined, including a tacit admission of guilt in the Watergate scandal. Taut and dramatic with moments of comedy, this fictionalization of true events is one of the most powerful plays of the decade.
Directed by Jim Sirianni and produced by DIJO Productions and Virtual Theatre Company, Frost/Nixon is an important work that is fortunate in having its Central Coast premiere in Santa Barbara.
