La Canterina
(THE SONGSTRESS)
Comic Opera by Joseph Haydn
La Canterina is a comic opera about how the young singer Gasparina and her "mother," Apollonia, deceive two suitors. One suitor is her (much older) voice teacher, Don Pelagio, and the other is the young and wealthy Don Ettore. Both men are in love with Gasparina. Conflict arises when these men discover the ladies' plan. The show will provide a wonderful night of entertainment and laughter!
The cast includes singers Megan Silberstein, playing the role of Gasparina (Jan 31); Andrew Combs, playing Don Pelagio; and Kim Huff playing Apollonia. These wonderful young singers will also be performing in Pirates of Penzance for the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. Our cast also includes Andrey Kitsen, a soloist in Westmont College's Christmas Festival, playing the role of Don Ettore; and Emmalee Wetzel, who will be playing the role of Gasparina (Jan 30) and is leaving for Germany in February to continue her vocal studies abroad. The opera is approximately one hour long.
