Speaking of Stories PRESENTS

Readers Theater class With Artistic Director Maggie Mixsell Selected Works

Uncover the performer inside of you. Put your acting skills and imagination to work recreating stories and characters. Explore classic and modern dramatic literature and discover the language of theater, dig for literary themes, build character, stumble onto through-lines and learn the essentials of playwriting by reading aloud. Theater is the collaborative art form and together we will build an ensemble group to bring plays and readings from the page to the stage with scripts in hand.

Seven two-hour sessions and a final performance at Center Stage Theater. Class size will be limited to assure one-on-one instruction time. Afternoon or evening sessions. (Each class requires a minimum enrollment in order to proceed.)

“With Maggie Mixsell’s guidance, Speaking of Stories deepened my appreciation of how to interpret a text, give it character and bring it to life. I learned more than I could have ever imagined.” —Robert Romanyshyn

“This class was an invaluable experience in my continued growth as an actor. Maggie brings wisdom, wit, and a keen ear for what will ring true.” —Kathy Marden

“As a writer, I highly recommend Maggie Mixsell’s Readers Theater class to anyone who’s anxious (or terrified) by the prospect of reading their work before an audience. A huge bonus was being reminded how to analyze stories in terms of structure, theme, mood, rhythm, point of view, character and setting.” — Linda Stewart-Oaten

“MUCH better than toastmasters!” —Nena
