SPOON RIVER ANTHOLOGY
by Edgar Lee Masters
adapted by Charles Aidman
Haunting and Timeless, Spoon River is Calling You Home
The inhabitants of Spoon River Cemetery will haunt you with their tragic, hilarious, and ironic stories of their lives. With 100 characters portrayed by six actors and with music evocative of an America that once was, Spoon River’s characters will be calling you home.
Edgar Lee Masters’ groundbreaking work was published in 1915, at a time when the country was also divided, and Masters explored the ideal America and what it had become and tried to reconcile the two. That is why this piece is as relevant today as when it was first introduced to American readers. Adapted for the Broadway stage, the play was a huge success and with the addition of original music has just the right combination of comedy, tragedy and drama to touch a responsive chord with all audiences and is suitable for the family although mature themes are explored.
Directed by Ed Giron. Music Director Bill Waxman. Features Leslie Story, Stephanie Sivers, Ed Giron, Bill Waxman, Jerry Oshinsky, Deborah Helm.
December 15: Benefit for Angels Bearing Gifts, all tickets $25
Think what it would be like for someone who wasn’t remembered with a gift or recognition at the holidays and on special occasions. And if that someone had a developmental disability, how much harder it would be. But thanks to Angels Bearing Gifts, a non-profit organization with over 200 volunteers serving the needs of over 170 developmentally disabled people in Santa Barbara, gifts and visits get made to remember this often neglected segment of our population. The Angels need you to remember them, too, at the holidays, so they can make a lot of people feel remembered and cared about. Learn more about Angels Bearing Gifts at www.angelsbearinggifts.com. Help make someone's holiday very special this year!
