The Best of Ballet22

Artistic Director: Roberto Vega Ortiz
Executive Director: Theresa Knudson

Cast:

Evan Ambrose, Lucas Ataide, Lorris Eichinger, Carlos Hopuy, Daniel R. Durrett, Brian Gephart, Roberto Vega Ortiz

Ballet22 was founded in 2020 to push what is possible in ballet by breaking gender stereotypes, specifically by presenting mxn and non binary artists en pointe. Empowering both LGBTQ+ artists and audiences to feel seen and represented, the season celebrates strength, vulnerability and authenticity with both classical and contemporary works that deconstruct tradition and redefine what it is to be a ballet dancer en pointe through a new and progressive lens. The show will include excerpts from Ramón Oller's dramatic and critically acclaimed story-ballet, Carmen, a mix of classic excerpts from Giselle and Le Corsaire, and contemporary works that have been included in past productions by choreographers Joshua StaytonJehbreal Jackson, and Myles Thatcher. Stayton's Juntos is a joyous, energetic celebration of being together. Jackson's I Will Follow You Too is a technical and poignant solo, balancing whimsical free movement with a feeling of sincerity and depth. In Thatcher's Heartbeats you will be transported to a club-like environment, where you will witness an array of emotions and interactions you may encounter on an especially memorable night out.

The evening offers something unique for every audience member to savor.

“.they move with mesmerizing refinement.”- Rachel Howard, San Francisco Chronicle

Masks Required for all audience members. We will require all attendees to show proof of vaccination or negative test result (taken within 72 hours of the event) along with a photo ID to be admitted to any performance.

All seating is general admission. For all performances late seating is on a limited basis, or is not allowed at all once the performance begins. Please plan your arrival time accordingly.

COVID PROTOCOLS AND RESTRICTIONS:

The county of Santa Barbara currently requires masks in indoor facilities for all individuals, and so masks will be required for admission to the theater.

Our structural COVID mitigation efforts continue. We have installed hand sanitizer dispensers throughout the facility, and also added a print at home or digital ticket option.  Most importantly, our HVAC is set to use 100% fresh air from outside, and we have installed the CDC and CAL-OSHA recommended MERV-13 filters.  Our HVAC system provides a complete turnover of the air in the theater 7.35 times and hour, and in addition we have added portable HEPA air purifiers in the dressing rooms, and by the theater lobby door.  The Center Stage staff is all fully vaccinated and has been COVID Compliance Certified.  Our highest priority is the safety of our performers, audience members and staff.  We want everyone to be safe and feel comfortable being at the theater.  If you have any questions or concerns, please email us at admin@centerstagetheater.org, we want to hear what you’re thinking and feeling. The situation is continuing to evolve and change, and we are making every effort to keep everyone informed of the changes.
